What expats and dual citizens should know

  • Accounts and property in more than one country are easy to miss — and an executor cannot deal with what they do not know exists.
  • Record each account and property with its institution, branch address and currency (USD or CAD).
  • Use the notes to say which assets are abroad and who to contact locally.
  • Name a contact person for each foreign institution.
  • You may deposit a will or codicil for safekeeping with a Superior Court registrar. During your lifetime it can be deposited by you, someone you authorize in writing, certain lawyers or representatives holding wills, a trust corporation representative, or someone authorized by court order. How will my family find my will in Ontario?
